My art is particularly shaped by childhood experiences from the post-war period.
Rebuilding the destroyed world could be seen everywhere at this time, and the reuse of broken materials was a matter of course. There was still no talk of recycling or upcycling.
Children's eyes saw the disaster of the ruins and piles of rubble as an aesthetic thing. Ruins were common sight and invited to play. The variety and colorfulness of the different materials, especially the bricks, gave rise to creative activity. What the adults did purposefully, children imitated with their creative play.
As a child I discovered the magic of different materials. Broken bricks, with their diverse nuances of red and orange tones, have been and still are what I liked in the long term.
But even later the school chalks (preferably colored), used down to the last crumb, have not let go of me to this day.
What is it that particularly fascinates me?
It's the velvety texture and the color. Coming from different production batches, the material always has slightly varying nuances.
It is the rhythm, the poetry of the material, that invites the creative process again and again.
The aesthetic possibilities are endless.
