Nicholas Bodde’s colour-intensive painting unfolds on an aluminium background. Horizontal surfaces structure his paintings as colored parallels radiating into space. The rich palette includes pure tones and mixtures rich in nuances, so that the respective color tone oscillates between strong contrasts and delicate pastel sequences. …

… Nicholas Bodde’s paintings are the result of an intense, slowly advanced painting process in which the artist addresses color as a concrete phenomenon in the interplay of contrasts and variations as well as the rhythmic polyphony of their surface design, which they reveal precisely from close up. While shiny, reflective fields incorporate the surroundings into the pictorial space, roughened surfaces pass on haptic stimuli to the viewer’s eye – again and again this delicate relief emphasizes the sensual character of painting. Their multi-part staggering condenses the colored composition.
